The Cai Lab investigates the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neural development and regeneration following injury. Our goal is to develop therapeutic applications for spinal cord injuries and retinal diseases by utilizing both in vitro and in vivo models, integrating tissue engineering and computational methodologies. Our current research projects include:

  • Developing gene therapy to treat spinal cord injury
  • Elucidating the molecular mechanisms of retinal development and degenerative diseases
  • Creating computational tools for analyzing gene expression and regulation
