The Cai lab studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neural development and regeneration after injury. We aim to develop therapeutic applications for spinal cord injury and retinal diseases using in vitro and in vivo models, combining tissue engineering and computational approaches. Our current research focuses on the following projects:

  • Develop gene therapy for spinal cord injury
  • Determine molecular mechanism of retinal development and degenerative diseases
  • Develop computational tools for the analysis of gene expression and regulation
