The largest project within the Student Experience Improvement Initiative is the selection and implemenation of an integrated, universitywide student information system (SIS). We began by gathering and validating system requirements and unique use cases for the functional areas that are in scope: Financial Aid, Admissions, Registrar, and Student Accounts. We then solicited proposals from qualified software vendors, and selected Oracle Student Cloud as our future SIS.

A new, integrated SIS will bring about significant benefits, staff will have a more complete view of students’ data, and manual processes will be reduced to a minimum. This will go a long way to improve the quality of interactions with students, have fewer handoffs between departments, and shorten turnaround times to resolve inquiries. In the coming months, we will bring on board a Business Process Reengineering (BPR)/SIS Implementation Planning partner to assist Rutgers with the BPR and SIS planning necessary to implement the new student system software developed and provided by Oracle.

A project timeline, including phasing, will be developed with the Business Process Reengineering (BPR)/SIS Implementation Planning partner. It will include both the BPR work necessary to optimize our processes for incorporation into the SIS as well as implementation of the SIS itself.

Additional SEII components include providing student service excellence through the development of a One Stop Service Model and enhancements to the myRutgers portal.

The Executive Sponsors, Steering Committee, and Project Team are committed to understanding who our stakeholders are, providing you with clear and concise information, and hearing your voices throughout the project lifecycle. We will build into our plan targeted engagement points with each stakeholder group, including students, faculty, staff, and administrators with the aim of providing the Rutgers community with timely updates on project progress, what to expect in the future, and how they will be impacted. We also will manage concerns and gain commitment from stakeholders throughout each project phase.

  • Students will test new designs, provide communications input and support, provide feedback on configuration, and give first-hand insight into the needs of the student community.
  • Faculty input will be integral in ensuring faculty needs are met and tools are designed in accordance with academic policies and practices.
  • Staff will represent campus and unit needs, refine processes, test designs, and provide feedback on configuration.
