Submit Your Work – Writers House Review

General Guidelines:

WHR reads work year-round. Writers must be current undergraduate RU students who’ve taken at least one creative writing class. We are looking for short fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, podcasts, and videos. We accept simultaneous submissions, but please notify us immediately if a piece is accepted elsewhere.

Fiction Guidelines:

Stories may run up to 5,000 words. Please send as an attachment in M.S. Word. Save your submission using your full name and the genre or your submission (for example: Ernest Hemingway–Fiction Submission). Similarly, in the subject header of your email, include your full name followed by “Fiction Submission.” Send to joshn@english.rutgers.edu. At the end of your story, please include a brief bio noting your major, class year (Class of 2022, for example), hometown, and anything else you would like to share about yourself.

Nonfiction Guidelines:

Nonfiction pieces may run up to 1,000 words. Please send as an attachment in M.S. Word. Save your submission using your full name and the genre or your submission (for example: Tara Westover–Nonfiction Submission). Similarly, in the subject header of your email, include your full name followed by “Nonfiction Submission.” Send to joshn@english.rutgers.edu. At the end of your piece, please include a brief bio noting your major, class year (Class of 2022, for example), hometown, and anything else you would like to share about yourself.

Poetry Guidelines:

Submit up to three poems. Send as an attachment in M.S. Word. Save your submission using your full name and the genre or your submission (for example: Tracy Smith–Poetry Submission). In the subject header of your email, include your full name followed by “Poetry Submission.” If submitting multiple poems, save in a single document with each poem starting on its own page. Send to joshn@english.rutgers.edu. Following your poem(s), please include a brief bio noting your major, class year (Class of 2022, for example), hometown, and anything else you would like to share about yourself.

Short Films:

Short films should run 8-15 minutes. Submit as a YouTube link. In the subject header of your email, include your full name followed by “Short Film Submission.” Send to joshn@english.rutgers.edu. In your email, please include a brief bio noting your major, class year (Class of 2022, for example), hometown, and anything else you would like to share about yourself. In addition, please provide a short paragraph of summary/background concerning your film.

Podcast Guidelines:

Podcasts should run 7-10 minutes. Submit as an MP3 file. Save the file using your full name and the title of your piece (for example: Willa Paskin–On Happiness). In the subject header of your email, include your full name followed by “Podcast Submission.” Send to joshn@english.rutgers.edu. In your email, please include a brief bio noting your major, class year (Class of 2022, for example), hometown, and anything else you would like to share about yourself. In addition, please provide a short paragraph of summary/background concerning your podcast.
