Pia Wong is a Ph.D. student in Art History where she focuses on Buddhist cave temples in premodern South Asia, specifically the relationship between gender and the creation of religious structures. She received her Bachelor’s degree in History of Art from Bryn Mawr College, where she wrote her senior thesis on the tension between religion and royalty at the Ajanta Caves. She also received her Master’s degree in History of Art from SOAS, University of London, writing her dissertation on the female imagery in Cave 7 at the Aurangabad Caves.
She has previously worked at the Princeton University Art Museum as the Collections Cataloguer of Asian Art, in addition to interning at various institutions around the globe including the Jewish Museum in New York, the Asian Civilisations Museum and Singapore Tyler Print Institute in Singapore, and Lehmann Maupin Gallery in Hong Kong.
