First published in 1980, Rutgers Art Review is an annual, open-access journal produced by graduate students in the Department of Art History at Rutgers University. The journal is dedicated to presenting original research by graduate students in art history and related fields. Each year the editors convene an editorial board made up of students from the department and review all submissions. The strongest articles are reviewed by established scholars in the field and pass an extensive editorial process prior to publication in order to confirm that each one will meaningfully contribute to existing scholarship. In 2012, Rutgers Art Review transitioned from a subscription-based to an open-access, online publication. In 2017, the journal began to solicit Art Historical projects in the Digital Humanities.
