{"id":445,"date":"2019-03-18T19:49:30","date_gmt":"2019-03-18T19:49:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/big10-friends-paper-workshop-2019\/?page_id=445"},"modified":"2019-04-05T16:12:06","modified_gmt":"2019-04-05T16:12:06","slug":"rachel-chambers-u-connecticut","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/big10-friends-paper-workshop-2019\/rachel-chambers-u-connecticut\/","title":{"rendered":"Rachel Chambers, U Connecticut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Human rights violations framed as transnational tort claims against corporate actors: an evaluation of case law and global trends<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A number of jurisdictions have developed a body of jurisprudence, which, to varying degrees, allows their courts to accept jurisdiction over claims where extraterritorial human rights violations are framed as tort law suits and brought against a corporate actor in its home jurisdiction. Examples of these suits include <em>Lungowe and Ors. v. Vedanta Resources Plc. and Konkola Copper Mines Plc.<\/em>and <em>Araya v. Nevsun Resources Ltd.<\/em>, currently pending decisions from the respective Supreme Courts of the United Kingdom and Canada, and <em>Maxima Acu\u00f1a-Atalaya v. Newmont Mining Corp.<\/em>, currently on appeal in the Delaware courts.
