\"\"<\/a>Welcome to Spring 2025! Let\u2019s continue to read together, one book at a time. In 2022, the Books We Read Blog conducted a series of interviews with contributors and friends of the blog to get a snapshot of our reading habits<\/a>: the things we like to read, the circumstances in which we read, and more. Revisiting the questions a few years later, here is the first new one.<\/p>\n

\n

Danielle Pitter<\/span><\/a> is a <\/span>published poet and graduate student assistant from the Master of Information Program at the School of Communication & Information at New Brunswick Libraries.<\/span> Read her posts for Books We Read <\/span>here<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

What kinds of books do you like to read?
\n<\/span><\/strong>I mostly like to read Young Adult and Adult Romance, Fiction, <\/span>memoirs, graphic novels, <\/span>and sometimes fantasy. <\/span><\/p>\n

Do you have format preferences<\/span>?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Print<\/span> and <\/span>ebooks<\/span> are my definite go-to. Audiobooks have become a growing favorite for me, too. I only listen to <\/span>unabridged audiobooks<\/span>; I\u2019ve never read abridged versions. <\/span>I only speak English, so I can only read in English. <\/span>I can understand <\/span>some <\/span>Jamaican Patios, my family\u2019s native language, but I don\u2019t speak<\/span>the language myself.<\/span><\/p>\n

How do you find new books to read?
\n<\/span><\/strong>I find new books to read from anywhere, like <\/span>social media, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, <\/span>Booktube<\/span> (the YouTube<\/span> space for the book community), my book blogger friends who have read books they recommend, <\/span>and <\/span>movies and TV shows that were based on books<\/span>.<\/span> Both of my nieces love to read, as well, so I sometimes get romance recommendations from them<\/span>. It makes me feel so good that I\u2019ve en<\/span>couraged them to read more, especially when they\u2019d been doing it since we were young. <\/span><\/p>\n

Where and when do you read?
\n<\/b><\/span>I read whenever I can and want to. I mostly read <\/span>at home indoors<\/span>, but on occasion, I\u2019ll go to a caf\u00e9 and read there. <\/span>I read during the early or mid<\/span>-afternoons, where there is more space in my brain to read. <\/span>I\u2019ve tried reading in the morning, but I\u2019m a night owl and like to sleep in <\/span>haha<\/span>! I\u2019ve also tried <\/span>reading at night, <\/span>too<\/span>, and that was okay. But I\u2019m mostly pay attention to reading during the day. <\/span><\/p>\n

Do you use any libraries or library resources for non-required reading?
\n<\/b><\/span>My very first post on this blog<\/span><\/a> was about this<\/span>! I wrote the many ways I fell back in love with reading through library resourc<\/span>es like subject specialists and <\/span>LibGuides<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

What do you get out of your non-required reading?
\n<\/span><\/strong>That it\u2019s okay to read for fun as an adult. As a graduate student, I\u2019m constantly reading articles, blog posts, discussion posts and writing papers for classes. <\/span>I used to feel guilty for not <\/span>reading stuff for school, like making me believe I was lazy or something. But <\/span>I\u2019ve found out that non-required reading is refreshing<\/span>. It reminds me<\/span> why I<\/span> enjoy reading so much, ever since I was young. <\/span>I need that balance between what I need to read, and what I want to. It works out best for my mental health. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"cover<\/a>What are you currently reading, or what have you read and enjoyed most recently?
\n<\/span><\/strong>I\u2019m currently listening to <\/span>Over the Influence <\/span>by Joanna \u201cJoJo\u201d Levesque<\/span><\/a>, a pop<\/span>\/R&B <\/span>singer whom I\u2019ve loved since forever. <\/span>I think she has an interesting and captivating story behind her artistry. <\/span>I\u2019m also reading and listening to <\/span>A Torch Against the Night<\/span> by <\/span>Sabaa<\/span> Tahir<\/span><\/a>, which is the second book in the <\/span>Ember in the Ashes <\/span>series. <\/span>I\u2019m taking my time with this one because it\u2019s a bit <\/span>more dense<\/span> than any<\/span> other YA fantasy book <\/span>I\u2019ve read in m<\/span>y life. And I really liked the first book, so I want to see how the <\/span>rest of the story plays out. <\/span><\/p>\n

Recommend a book in one sentence that you think everyone should read!
\n<\/strong>This is such a good and hard question to answer. <\/span>Everyone\u2019s reading taste is different. <\/span>The books I\u2019m into not everyone would <\/span>probably be into, and same goes for them. <\/span>I guess the only \u201crecommendation\u201d I have <\/span>is to read <\/span>as many diverse books as you can.<\/span><\/p>\n
