Scott Fitzgerald&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/classic.esquire.com\/article\/1934\/12\/1\/sleeping-and-waking\">Sleeping and Waking<\/a>,&#8221; a piece about insomnia that straddles the line between short story and personal essay in a way that today we might call autofiction.\u00a0 Participants in our online forum talked about the kinds of anxieties that come late at night, the distinction between dreams and waking fantasies, and the clock-watching anxiety about being able to fall asleep that can make actually falling asleep so hard to do.\u00a0 We held a successful live session as well &#8212; many thanks to our participants for joining on BigBlueButton!<\/p>\n<p>O<a href=\"http:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/books-we-read\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/248\/2020\/07\/11JCOeventscreen.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2482 \" src=\"http:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/books-we-read\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/248\/2020\/07\/11JCOeventscreen-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Jpyce Carol Oates\" width=\"153\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/books-we-read\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/248\/2020\/07\/11JCOeventscreen-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/books-we-read\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/248\/2020\/07\/11JCOeventscreen.jpg 673w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 153px) 100vw, 153px\" \/><\/a>ur third session kicked off with a bang, as distinguished author Joyce Carol Oates joined a live session to discuss her short story &#8220;Where\u00a0<em>Is<\/em> Here?&#8221; and thoughts about her own writing craft.<\/p>\n<p>Join us on the Summer Tales Canvas site as we bring the summer (much like a good short story) to a satisfying conclusion!<\/p>\n<p>Not affiliated with Rutgers?
