{"id":4189,"date":"2021-04-06T10:23:36","date_gmt":"2021-04-06T10:23:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/books-we-read\/?p=4189"},"modified":"2021-04-06T12:03:41","modified_gmt":"2021-04-06T12:03:41","slug":"event-recording-reading-international-youth-literature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/books-we-read\/event-recording-reading-international-youth-literature\/","title":{"rendered":"Event Recording: Reading International Youth Literature"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/books-we-read\/international-youth-literature-collection-at-alexander-library\/\">International Youth Literature Collection<\/a> <span style=\"font-size: 1rem\"> (IYLC), housed in Alexander Library, was launched with an inaugural reading session on Friday, April 2, 2021, on the birthday of Danish author <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hans_Christian_Andersen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hans Christian Andersen<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">It was wonderful to see so many of you at the event.\u00a0 In case you missed it or would like to watch the rerun, here it is.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Recording  -  Introducing International Youth Literature Collection on April 2, 2021\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5oKaE-_nKbc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Event participants enjoyed the great variety and diversity of the highlighted resources. Some comments:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em>University Libraries, and our MI\/LIS students has been so successful.\u00a0 The panoply of authors and librarians sharing international children&#8217;s books and reading them in such a rich array of languages was inspirational and uplifting. Also, I&#8217;m very impressed by the detailed LibGuide which will continue to enlighten and enrich our students, faculty, and library faculty within SC&amp;I and Rutgers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em>Shout out to all of the librarians and future librarians who put so much incredible effort into this important collection.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em>I enjoyed and appreciated the short reading in various foreign languages. Children growing up in bilingual families have a tremendous advantage later in life, if educators also help with the proper content and context.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em>I can\u2019t imagine the hours that went into all of this. \u00a0Bravo to everyone involved!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em>Poetry is in again! I was glad to hear children\u2019s poems in their original language.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em>How cute is this little girl lip singing!\u00a0 (Mei Ling:\u00a0<\/em>Who is the little girl?
