D\u00edaz won an American Book Award for her first collection of poems, When My Brother Was an Aztec<\/em><\/a>, in 2012, and released her second collection (Postcolonial Love Poem<\/em><\/a>) last year to similar rave reviews. She was awarded a MacArthur Foundation \u201cgenius\u201d grant in 2018, and the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry<\/a> in 2021 for also Postcolonial Love Poem.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

A Mojave born and raised in the Fort Mojave Indian Village and an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Tribe, D\u00edaz is known for addressing issues facing Native communities in her poetry, such as racism, poverty, addiction, and especially the conservation of languages and cultures.<\/p>\n
