Appointed by Libutti as the first Associate Director for Shared Resources in 2019, Adam C. Berger, MD, FACS works closely with the ADs and Program Leaders to develop a strategic plan and policies to ensure that the Cancer Center operates shared resources that support basic, translational, clinical, prevention, and population research and provides administrative, scientific, and operational guidance to Shared Resource Directors. Berger is also a Professor and Chief of Melanoma and Soft Tissue Sarcoma at CINJ. He completed his residency in surgery at the University of Maryland in 2002 after spending two years in the Surgery Branch of NCI, then completed a fellowship in surgical oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center. He was at Thomas Jefferson University from 2004 to 2019 where he was Section Chief for Surgical Oncology and held various leadership positions including chair of the Cancer Center Protocol Review Committee and the Data Safety and Monitoring Committee. While at Jefferson, he was recognized with Dean’s Awards for both Excellence in Education and Faculty Mentoring. His research interests include oncology clinical trials and clinical databases and prospective evaluation of clinicopathologic prognostic factors for various malignancies. Berger has been PI on investigator-initiated clinical trials and numerous other trials in breast cancer, melanoma, and soft tissue sarcoma. At CINJ, he oversees the Section of Melanoma and Sarcoma Surgical Oncology and the Cutaneous Oncology Clinical Trials Working Group.
