Appointed by Libutti as the first AD for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in 2021, Haejin In, MD, MPH, MBA, FACS, FSSO serves as the executive level diversity and inclusion strategist for CINJ, ensuring that DEI issues are addressed across the Cancer Center, including within the institute’s faculty, leadership, and staff. In received her medical degree from Dongguk University (South Korea) in 2000 and MBA in health care administration from Boston University in 2003. Following residency at Boston Medical Center and a health service delivery research fellowship at Harvard Medical School, she obtained an MPH at Harvard School of Public Health. She received the Excellence in Research Award from the American College of Surgeons and in 2011 pursued a surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Chicago and a research fellowship at the American College of Surgeons. She joined the faculty of Albert Einstein College of Medicine in September 2014 (Surgery and Epidemiology/Population Health) and was a surgical oncologist at Montefiore Medical Center. In was awarded a grant from the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology to develop a screening questionnaire to identify patients at high-risk for gastric cancer, which particularly affects racial/ethnic minorities. She received the Calabresi Career Development Award for Clinical Oncology to study dysfunctional patterns of health care utilization in patients presenting to the ER with a first-time diagnosis of cancer (particularly relevant to lower socioeconomic status [SES] and underserved populations). In was associate program leader for cancer disparities integration for Einstein’s Minority Community Oncology Research Program and Director of Surgical Resident Research. After joining CINJ in September 2021 as the first Associate Director for DEI and Chief Diversity Officer, she established the Office of DEI, launched several equity-focused initiatives, and is a member of numerous national societies.
