Welcome

The Department of Chemical Biology explores how chemicals—including those found in food, pharmaceuticals, and the environment—interact with biological systems, particularly the human body. Our research seeks to uncover new insights into these interactions and translate them into a deeper understanding of human health, as well as innovative approaches to preventing and treating disease, such as cancer and neurological diseases. Through this work, we strive to improve individual health and make lasting contributions to the wellbeing of society.

Our distinguished faculty includes internationally recognized scientists. They direct active research laboratories that make fundamental discoveries in chemical biology, advancing knowledge that leads directly to disease prevention and therapy. The department’s research receives substantial federal support, including major grants from the National Institutes of Health.

Our faculty are also passionate educators. They play an integral role in the education of PharmD students, teaching core courses and engaging students in faculty-led research projects. Equally committed to training the next generation of pharmaceutical scientists, our faculty mentor graduate students and postdoctoral fellows across multiple Rutgers graduate programs through collaborative, interdisciplinary research.
