RECOVER Long COVID Week

At the atrium of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, one of our research assistants, Johan, helped raise awareness about Long COVID and recruited participants for RECOVER, a nationwide study on the long-term effects of COVID-19. Through this outreach, we engaged with patients and visitors to share vital information and support ongoing research aimed at understanding and addressing Long COVID.

Research Day

At the Pediatric Research Day on May 14th, 2025, PCRC Research Assistant, Johan Ayala, presented our working manuscript, “Successful Recruitment of Latino and Medically Underserved Participants in a National Observational Study”, now titled “Community Partnerships in Action: Boosting Inclusion of Latino and Underserved Families in Pediatric Observational Research” (image 1). This research abstract was also accepted to be presented at the Academy Health Annual Research Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota (image 2). This conference “showcased a program packed with innovative methods and robust discussions of health systems research’s impact on policy and practice in a changing landscape.”

Mexican Consulate

In December 2024, in honor of World AIDS Day, we presented at the Mexican consulate to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. Our engagement focused on addressing the unique challenges that Latino communities face, including systemic barriers to accessing accurate health information and care. Importantly, we partnered with the physician at the consulate who was offering free HIV testing and consultations, ensuring that attendees had immediate access to confidential health services if they wished to learn their status or seek guidance. By delivering educational content in a culturally sensitive manner, we aimed to reduce stigma, promote HIV prevention, and encourage testing and treatment, aligning with the broader call to action for health equity and human rights that defined World AIDS Day 2024. This initiative was part of ongoing efforts to ensure that Latino individuals—who are disproportionately affected by HIV and often encounter obstacles such as language barriers, discrimination, and limited healthcare access—receive the support and information they need to protect their health.
