The Rutgers CTE Research Study is funded by a National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) Grant. This is a three-year project with the end goals of creating a career services toolkit or manual to assist students with mental health conditions interested in pursuing Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Why This Matters<\/h3>\n

Career and Technical Education, (CTE) previously referred to as Voc-Tech or vocational\/technical education is focused on exposing students to real-world skills and training in a variety of fields. There is a myth that this type of education is only for those who don’t want to go to college, but that is false. There are plenty of CTE students that pursue post-secondary education, whether it be a 4-year\/2-year college or trade school.<\/p>\n

Here is a list of all CTE Career Clusters<\/a>, representing about 79 different career paths for students.<\/p>\n

This is a short video<\/a> explaining what CTE is.<\/p>\n

As CTE programs gain increased attention, we’ve noticed that there aren’t many supports in place for students with mental health conditions that are pursuing these programs. This is an underserved population and our research aims to create a toolkit that will help guide students with mental health conditions in pursuing CTE programs. We hope to include guidance and materials for CTE Employers, Instructors & Educators, Family Members, and Support Providers as well.<\/p>\n
