The Beehive: Douglass Off-Campus and Commuter Students is an organization whose aim is to engage with the commuter and off-campus students of Douglass and provide them with programs tailored to the needs and concerns of commuters and off-campus students in order to foster involvement at Rutgers University.

Douglass Black Students’ Congress: The purpose of DBSC is to instill Black consciousness within the college community and to bring the members of the organization and the community at large closer together through the bonds of friendship and sisterhood. Active members may become involved with any one of the following committees: The Community Service Committee researches single and ongoing projects that allow DBSC to “give back” by helping residents in the surrounding New Brunswick community and participates in the college’s recruitment initiatives for high school students, particularly high school students of African descent. The Public Relations Committee helps design and distribute flyers, writes articles for DBSC’s newsletter, DIASPORA, and writes articles about DBSC for other campus publications. The Special Events Committee decides the topics and moderators for DBSC’s monthly Black Thoughts discussions; plans programs for Kwanzaa, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, and other occasions; and helps coordinate other programs such as a career panel of alumnae with the Black Alumnae Network and quarterly poetry nights.

Douglass Big Little Program: DBLP is a peer mentorship organization that pairs underclassmen, transfer students, and commuter students with upperclassmen Douglass women to help them transition to Rutgers students, to have a resource to go to for any advice or questions, or just to make a new friend!

Douglass D.I.V.A.S.: The purpose of Douglas D.I.V.A.S. is to develop a network for students with a strong interest in contemporary women’s issues by providing a forum for discussion, debate, socializing and bonding that will positively contribute to each member’s academic experience. Douglass D.I.V.A.S. hopes to inspire all members of the group to strive for excellence in their own personal and professional lives. Members will create knowledge amongst themselves in order to produce and benefit from leadership opportunities throughout the university and community.

Douglass Friends of UNFPA: Douglass Friends of UNFPA is currently the first and only college chapter of the Friends of UNFPA, founded in 2013 by two students who saw the need to educate the Rutgers community on the work UNFPA does all over the world. The UNFPA, or UN Population Fund, is the UN office which deals with reproductive and maternal health, infant mortality, and population data collection and analyzing. The UNFPA seeks to create a world “where every childbirth is safe, every pregnancy is wanted, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled”. The Friends of UNFPA is the UNFPA’s fundraiser, and as an extension of the Friends of UNFPA at Rutgers University, we strive to promote awareness of UNFPA’s mission among our fellow students as well as implement fundraising initiatives on behalf of the UNFPA. The base of our organization is made up of students who are members of the Douglass Residential College.

Douglass Honors College Coalition: The members of the DHCC represent their fellow students and plan programs with the goals of intellectual, professional, or individual enrichment. All Douglass women within the Honors College are members of DHCC. We host several events throughout the year. DHCC hosts several events open to all DRC students, including a celebratory event for International Women’s Day in March.

Project SUPER Research Advisory Board: The Research Advisory Board (RAB) is a mentoring group of dedicated student leaders that help the Douglass Project (DP) Project SUPER program to implement workshops and programs that promote the success of women in the Introduction to Scientific Research (ISR) course. These programs include mentoring ISR students and helping prepare for various DP events, such as, but not limited to, LinkedIn Workshop, Networking Night, and Introduction to Scientific Research orientation and mixer.

Muslim Feminists for the Arts: We use the arts to raise awareness of Islamic feminism through the Qur’an and hadiths. Our dedication for the religion motivates our work.

Red Pine Ambassadors: The Red Pine Ambassadors (RPA) are dedicated leaders who aim to recruit and motivate young women to choose Douglass Residential College as their campus community. Our own diversity and involvement represent the whole of Douglass, contribute to our personal growth, and exemplify the “Douglass Difference.” We communicate our love for Douglass by empowering and inspiring future generations of students to become a part of our community and tradition of excellence. As Douglass women at Rutgers University we lead by example and encourage women to choose Douglass Residential College to further their leadership development.

Douglass Orientation Committee: DOC organizes an orientation every fall to provide a special welcome for incoming Douglass women. During this orientation, DOC works to inform and remind incoming Douglass women of the opportunities that are readily available to them as members of DRC.

Women’s Center Coalition: The Women’s Center Coalition (WCC) is a Rutgers University student-run organization with a focus on social activism and community building. We are comprised of undergraduate students whose collective mission is to raise awareness of a wide variety of issues including sexism, racism, LGBTQ, ecological issues, social justice concerns, cultural awareness and respect, and human rights. Our coalition supports and encourages individuals to critically examine social life and justice on domestic, local, university, workplace and global fronts. Our primary goals include maintaining a resource center offering information about the wide variety of social activism organizations in the Rutgers community as well as on the national and global level. We work to create and maintain a coalition of student run organizations that offer current events discussion groups, educational activities, and community building activities. We aim to be a vital information source and clearinghouse for Rutgers social activism groups of all types. A unique and valuable aspect of our organization is the Women’s Center, located in the Douglass Student Center. It is a private, safe space for individuals and groups to organize and participate in a wide variety of events. It is also home to our expanding library of books, which are available for students on an honor borrowing system.

Women’s International and Multicultural Association: Women’s International and Multicultural Association (WIMA) seeks to promote authentic discussions between international and domestic students regarding race relations, cultural norms, and women’s rights. WIMA utilizes these various perspectives to address concerns of human rights violations against women around the world. WIMA seeks to foster cross-cultural communication among students by expanding their knowledge of other cultures on campus. This organization welcomes both international and domestic students of various racial/ethnic backgrounds!

Women Organizing Against Harassment: Women Organizing Against Harassment (WOAH) was created in 2014 to prevent the hiring by Rutgers University of a professor accused of sexual assault at his prior job. WOAH succeeded in its mission, and ever since has overseen the organization of the annual Take Back the Night (TBTN) march at Rutgers. Take Back the Night is a global movement that has been organized worldwide and at Rutgers since 1976 in an effort to put an end to sexual assault and gender-based violence. If you’re interested in dismantling the patriarchy, connecting with a supportive community, and developing leadership and planning skills, come join us!
