The Fall 2026 ELF cohort invites faculty to take up this question in a small, collaborative cohort focused on community-engaged teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<h3>About this cohort<\/h3>\n<p>The Fall 2026 ELF cohort focuses on courses that bring together:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Community partnerships and public engagement<\/li>\n<li>High-impact experiential learning<\/li>\n<li>Career-connected learning and student skill development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Community-engaged teaching can take many forms: shared projects with a community partner, individual placements with different community partners, or a mix of the two. This cohort is designed to support that range of approaches.<\/p>\n<h3>Who should apply to the program<\/h3>\n<p>We welcome full-time faculty across disciplines, roles, and experience levels, including those who are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Beginning to explore community engagement in teaching, or looking to strengthen existing practices;<\/li>\n<li>Leading project- or placement-based courses; and<\/li>\n<li>Thinking about how to scale or connect engagement across courses or programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We explicitly seek faculty with different types of expertise to create opportunities to learn from one another.<\/p>\n<h3>How the program works<\/h3>\n<p>The program will run September &#8211; December 2026 and include the following activities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An in-person kickoff session in early September<\/li>\n<li>Three monthly 90-minutes Zoom sessions (October, November, December)<\/li>\n<li>Short readings and light design activities between sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The cohort is intentionally small (8-10 faculty) and conversational. The focus is on shared inquiry, feedback, and iteration, rather than formal training.<\/p>\n<h3>What participants do during the program<\/h3>\n<p>Faculty will use the cohort experience as a working space to focus on a course they plan to teach. Over the semester, they will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Design or refine a course that includes a substantial community-engaged component<\/li>\n<li>Clarify how engagement connects to course concepts and learning goals<\/li>\n<li>Build or deepen relationships with community partners<\/li>\n<li>Develop ways for students to reflect on and articulate their growth in skills and career readiness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Throughout, participants will explore the elements that make community-engaged learning high-impact, such as sustained engagement, structured reflection, mentorship, and public-facing work.<\/p>\n<h3>What participants develop during the program<\/h3>\n<p>By the end of the semester, participants will develop:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A new or substantially revised syllabus<\/li>\n<li>A clearer approach to integrating:<\/li>\n<li>Community partnership<\/li>\n<li>Experiential structure (preparation \u2192 engagement \u2192 reflection)<\/li>\n<li>Career-connected learning<\/li>\n<li>A plan for assessing student learning in experiential learning and community engagement<\/li>\n<li>A way to share their work with colleagues (e.g., department, panel, or campus setting)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What participants bring to the program<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A course (existing or planned) that includes community engagement<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to reflect and revise<\/li>\n<li>Interest in contributing to a collaborative environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How participants benefit as fellows<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A collegial, cross-disciplinary cohort experience<\/li>\n<li>Structured support for course design and refinement<\/li>\n<li>Opportunities to share work with peers across campus<\/li>\n<li>Research and professional development funds of $2,500<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Learn more<\/h3>\n<p>We will offer two virtual info sessions to discuss more details and answer questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>July 30, 2pm \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/rutgers.zoom.us\/meeting\/register\/6Ch34NKFQCeUv1DsKlWv0w\">click here to register<\/a><\/li>\n<li>August 4, 1pm \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/rutgers.zoom.us\/meeting\/register\/0oumbvO4T7uHBEVtdijXHQ\">click here to register<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How to apply<\/h3>\n<p>The application features a short set of questions about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your experience with community-engaged teaching<\/li>\n<li>The course you want to design or redesign<\/li>\n<li>Areas where you are looking to grow<\/li>\n<li>What you hope to gain from the cohort<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a class=\"btn btn-primary\" href=\"https:\/\/forms.cloud.microsoft\/r\/Tq976Bii8e\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Apply by August 14, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Questions<\/h3>\n<p>Contact Chuck Keeton, Vice Provost for Experiential Learning, at <a href=\"mailto:keeton@rutgers.edu\">keeton@rutgers.edu<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How can courses help students meaningfully connect what they are learning with communities and contexts around them?
