Formulated in 2018, the Journalism Initiative on Gender-Based Violence by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership was developed to strengthen the engagement and capacity of journalists and news media practitioners in reporting on GBV globally, the Initiative consulted over 70 journalists from 35 countries in the development of ideas towards JiG tools. The consultations found an overwhelming demand by journalists across the board for assistance in GBV reporting through best practices, guidelines and networking for peer to peer learning. It also brought to the forefront the importance, among others, of terminology, ethical standards, issue- framing, and selection of sources.
