DESCRIPTION:BRF President & CEO Dr. John George recently sat down with Rutgers’ own Dr. Anil Nanda in New York City. Their conversation centered on possible partnerships in Shreveport — a promising next step in expanding our reach and impact. \nOver the years\, Dr. Nanda has been building bridges across disciplines and continents. As the driving force behind Rutgers’ global neurosurgery initiatives\, he holds the Peter W. Carmel Endowed Chair of Neurosurgery\, spanning both Rutgers–New Jersey Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He leads programs in skull base\, vascular\, and spinal neurosurgery\, always integrating top-tier research with world-class clinical care. \nUnder Dr. Nanda’s guidance\, Rutgers Neurosurgery is going global — collaborating internationally\, developing training programs abroad\, and sharing expertise well beyond our borders. He also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies Journal\, and most recently spoke at Rutgers’ first-ever International Brain Tumor Symposium. His talk focused on the evolution of skull base surgery — how new techniques\, advanced imaging\, and coordinated care models are pushing the field forward in treating complex brain tumors. \nHis record speaks volumes: nearly 18\,000 surgeries\, including over 2\,000 skull base and intracranial aneurysm cases. He’s written hundreds of peer-reviewed articles\, dozens of book chapters and texts\, and is heavily cited in neurosurgical literature. \nBefore arriving at Rutgers\, Dr. Nanda spent 27 years at LSU Health Shreveport.
