SUMMARY:Dr. Anil Nanda Delivers Invited Neurosurgical Lectures Across India
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Anil Nanda recently delivered a series of invited presentations in India that explored the technical\, philosophical\, and deeply human dimensions of neurosurgical practice. \nAcross 3 engagements held between February 27 and March 4\, Dr. Nanda addressed audiences ranging from virtual attendees to faculty\, trainees\, and neurosurgical teams in Bengaluru and Azamgarh. His lectures focused on the realities of surgical complications\, the moral weight of clinical decision-making\, and the lifelong demands and rewards of a career in neurosurgery. \nOn February 27\, he presented “Meningiomas: Diabolical and Divine” during Grand Rounds at The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru\, one of the largest neurological hospitals in India and one of the largest training programs with over 40 residents. This lecture addressed one of the most difficult aspects of surgical practice: complications. Dr. Nanda discussed how neurosurgeons must confront these moments with honesty\, humility\, technical rigor\, and resilience. \nThe following day\, on February 28\, Dr. Nanda delivered a keynote address at the Silver Jubilee Celebrations (25 Years) of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences\, Whitefield\, Bengaluru. His talk was titled “Neurosurgical Complications: Ghosts and Gods”. The lecture explored the dual nature of meningioma surgery\, highlighting both its formidable technical challenges and its moments of profound clinical reward. \nThe series concluded on March 4 with Grand Rounds at Life Line Hospital Neurosurgical Institute\, Azamgarh University\, where Dr. Nanda presented “Meningiomas: Diabolical and Dharma.” In this lecture\, he reflected on the discipline\, sacrifice\, and purpose that shape the life of a neurosurgeon\, highlighting the enduring meaning that can emerge from a demanding professional path. \nThese presentations reflect Dr. Nanda’s longstanding commitment not only to advancing neurosurgical science and education\, but also to engaging with the broader ethical\, emotional\, and philosophical questions that define patient care and the surgeon’s life. His visit provided an opportunity for international academic exchange and meaningful dialogue with colleagues and trainees across India. \nDr. Nanda’s speaking engagements underscore the continued importance of global collaboration in neurosurgery and academic medicine. Through these conversations\, he contributed to ongoing efforts to strengthen professional education\, mentorship\, and reflection within the field.

SUMMARY:Dr. Nanda Meets with BRF President to Explore New Collaborations
DESCRIPTION:BRF President & CEO Dr. John George recently sat down with Rutgers’ own Dr. Anil Nanda in New York City. Their conversation centered on possible partnerships in Shreveport — a promising next step in expanding our reach and impact. \nOver the years\, Dr. Nanda has been building bridges across disciplines and continents. As the driving force behind Rutgers’ global neurosurgery initiatives\, he holds the Peter W. Carmel Endowed Chair of Neurosurgery\, spanning both Rutgers–New Jersey Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He leads programs in skull base\, vascular\, and spinal neurosurgery\, always integrating top-tier research with world-class clinical care. \nUnder Dr. Nanda’s guidance\, Rutgers Neurosurgery is going global — collaborating internationally\, developing training programs abroad\, and sharing expertise well beyond our borders. He also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies Journal\, and most recently spoke at Rutgers’ first-ever International Brain Tumor Symposium. His talk focused on the evolution of skull base surgery — how new techniques\, advanced imaging\, and coordinated care models are pushing the field forward in treating complex brain tumors. \nHis record speaks volumes: nearly 18\,000 surgeries\, including over 2\,000 skull base and intracranial aneurysm cases. He’s written hundreds of peer-reviewed articles\, dozens of book chapters and texts\, and is heavily cited in neurosurgical literature. \nBefore arriving at Rutgers\, Dr. Nanda spent 27 years at LSU Health Shreveport. There\, he built the state’s largest neurosurgery training program and brought innovations like Gamma Knife radiosurgery and neuroendovascular services to Louisiana. \nTo learn more about this exciting exchange and what it means for future collaborations\, visit BRF’s press release: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/brf-louisiana_brf-president-and-ceo-dr-john-george-recently-activity-7384664125408276481-Zn4o/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAABFmwQYB3m6iMTezOY7SEgW-yqGDQq4LcU4

SUMMARY:Boston Declaration
DESCRIPTION:The Boston Declaration was a global call to action that united the neurosurgical community in a shared commitment to advancing access to safe\, timely\, and affordable neurosurgical care worldwide. Born from the momentum of the 2015 Lancet Commission on Global Surgery and the subsequent World Health Assembly resolution\, this initiative marked a decade of progress while recognizing the urgent need for continued collaboration to close the global neurosurgical care gap. \nOn April 24\, 2025\, global stakeholders convened at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute in Boston to present pledges addressing identified needs in training\, infrastructure\, and systems strengthening. These commitments will be monitored and re-evaluated over 1-\, 3-\, and 5-year milestones. \nRutgers Global Neurosurgery had a strong presence at this historic event and actively participated by presenting two pledges focused on supporting neurosurgical researchers from low and middle-income countries\, as well as improving medical student access to global neurosurgery initiatives via the Osler Club. The pledges were read by Dr. Anil Nanda\, Director of Global Neurosurgery at Rutgers\, on behalf of the program. \nThis gathering reaffirmed a collective responsibility to ensure that no one is left behind in accessing life-saving neurosurgical care.
