Melissa Woortman is a sixth year Ph.D. candidate in the Nutritional Sciences Graduate Program. Previous studies include completion of a B.S. in Nutritional Sciences from Pennsylvania State University, a dietetic internship program at the College of Saint Elizabeth, and an M.S. in Human Environmental Sciences from University of Alabama. After working in clinical dietetics as a Registered Dietitian for several years, Melissa decided to return to academia and study the gut microbiome, which is the focus of her research in the lab of Dr. M. Gloria Dominguez-Bello. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys a wide variety of hobbies which include knitting, hiking, martial arts, and music.
