Pre2 CAP laboratory receives award to study impacts of PFAS on prostate cancer in New Jersey

The Precision Prevention of Prostate Cancer (Pre2 CAP) laboratory received an award from the National Institutes of Health to conduct research on exposure to per- and polyfluroalkyl substances (PFAS) and potential impacts on prostate cancer risk and survival. These chemicals have been labeled “forever chemicals” due to their persistence in the environment and human body, and were widely used in consumer products, cookware, and certain clothing materials. Dr. Gloria Post of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection was one of the first US-based scientists to identify the ubiquity of PFAS in drinking water systems, making New Jersey an important place to study the long-term impacts of this exposure. We will work closely with partners at CINJ, the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute at Rutgers, University Hospital Newark, the New Jersey State Cancer Registry, and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
