{"id":756,"date":"2025-04-22T20:27:26","date_gmt":"2025-04-22T20:27:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/hari-iyer\/?page_id=756"},"modified":"2026-03-30T19:42:01","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T19:42:01","slug":"repel","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/hari-iyer\/repel\/","title":{"rendered":"REPEL"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Research on the Epidemiology of Prostate Cancer and Environmental Levels<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2 data-start=\"194\" data-end=\"278\"><strong data-start=\"197\" data-end=\"278\">Join Our Study: Understanding Chemicals in Drinking Water and Prostate Cancer<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong data-start=\"284\" data-end=\"313\">What Is This Study About?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"314\" data-end=\"715\">We&#8217;re conducting a research study to learn whether chemicals found in drinking water\u2014specifically per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)\u2014might affect the health of men diagnosed with prostate cancer. PFAS have been linked to several types of cancer, but we still don\u2019t know if they play a role in how prostate cancer develops or progresses. This study is one of the first to explore that question.<\/p>\n<p><strong data-start=\"174\" data-end=\"201\">Who Can Join the Study?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"203\" data-end=\"400\">We\u2019re currently enrolling participants for a research study on drinking water chemicals and prostate cancer. If you&#8217;re interested in taking part, here\u2019s what you need to know about who is eligible:<\/p>\n<p><strong>You May Be Eligible If You:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"440\" data-end=\"705\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"440\" data-end=\"467\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"442\" data-end=\"467\">Are 20 years or older<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"468\" data-end=\"514\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"470\" data-end=\"514\">Have been diagnosed with prostate cancer<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"515\" data-end=\"610\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"517\" data-end=\"610\">Are receiving or have received treatment at Rutgers Cancer Institute<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"515\" data-end=\"610\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"517\" data-end=\"610\">Live in New Jersey as your primary residence<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"662\" data-end=\"705\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"664\" data-end=\"705\">Can read, write, and speak in English<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong data-start=\"714\" data-end=\"736\">When Can You Join?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"737\" data-end=\"1012\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"737\" data-end=\"865\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"739\" data-end=\"865\">If you had radiation or surgery as your main treatment, you can join between 3 and 12 months after your treatment ends<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"866\" data-end=\"1012\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"868\" data-end=\"1012\">If you&#8217;re on active surveillance (monitoring your cancer rather than treating it right away), you can join any time after your diagnosis.<span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1669\" data-end=\"1931\"><strong>Who Can I Contact For More Information?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1669\" data-end=\"1931\">You can contact our team at repel@cinj.rutgers.edu.
