Peter Hepburn

Associate Professor

Peter Hepburn is an Associate Professor of Sociology in the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University-Newark. He received his PhD in Sociology & Demography from the University of California and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Eviction Lab at Princeton University. Most of Prof. Hepburn’s work revolves around housing insecurity, particularly the prevalence, causes, and consequences of eviction for renters in the United States. He has also done research on work scheduling, childcare arrangements, and the reach of the contemporary criminal justice system. He has published articles in Social Forces, PNAS, JAMA, Demography, Sociology of Education, Journal of Marriage and Family, Social Service Review, and other outlets. His work has been funded through an NIH R01 and well as grants from the Pew Charitable Trusts, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Russell Sage Foundation, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and others. He lives in New York City.
