Janice Oursler, Ph.D., CRC

Associate Professor

Janice Oursler, Ph.D., CRC, is a Co-Investigator for the iCareer study and an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatric Rehabilitation And Counseling Professions at Rutgers since 1999. She is the Program Director for the M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling at Rutgers, a degree accredited by both CACREP and CORE. Dr. Oursler has extensive experience in working with individuals with disabilities to choose, get and keep employment. Before joining the Department, she worked for 15 years for the New York State Office of Mental Health including positions as Director of Rehabilitation Services at two different state hospitals. She was trained in the Choose-Get-Keep approach by the Boston University Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation. After joining the Department, Dr. Oursler was a consultant to the Pennsylvania Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services for over 10 years to advise on the statewide implementation of psychiatric rehabilitation services including employment. She has extensive experience in developing curriculum related to employment services including leading a pilot project on the effectiveness of using skill modules based on the Direct Skills Teaching approach with people with disabilities seeking employment. Dr. Oursler’s extensive experience in vocational rehabilitation services including job-related services as well as her background in teaching and program administration will be assets in attaining the project’s goals.
