Since its founding, Islam, the Humanities and the Human has built a vibrant intellectual community through a wide range of public lectures, book talks, and faculty-led seminars. We have hosted events that span disciplines and geographies, from explorations of African Muslim literacy in the colonial Caribbean and youth politics in Amman through graffiti, to conversations on the layered translations of One Thousand and One Nights.<\/em> Our programming has featured scholars and artists examining modern art in Lebanon, the cultural lives of early photographs in Senegal, the legacies of al-Andalus, and the intersections of Islam and Black thought in the Americas.
\nTogether, these events have connected questions of religion, power, translation, and visual culture to broader debates in the humanities. By bringing leading voices in Islamic studies, art history, literature, and history to campus, our group has established itself as a space where new conversations about Islam, the humanities, and the human can unfold.<\/p>\n
