Jeehiun Katherine Lee received her B.A. in Chemistry from Cornell University (summa cum laude). She was then a Department of Defense and American Chemical Society Fellow at Harvard University, where she obtained her Ph.D. under the direction of Joseph J. Grabowski. Lee then did an National Institute of Health Postdoctoral Fellowship with Kendall N. Houk at UCLA, before moving to Rutgers.

Lee has received numerous awards during her time at Rutgers, including the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Award for Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Education.
