{"id":574,"date":"2025-06-24T18:37:15","date_gmt":"2025-06-24T18:37:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/landarch-labs\/?page_id=574"},"modified":"2025-06-25T16:43:23","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T16:43:23","slug":"models","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/landarch-labs\/fabrication\/models\/","title":{"rendered":"Models"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Digital Display of 3D Models<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Scanned Models<\/h3>\n<p>These are objects in the real world which have been scanned using 3-D scanning techniques.<\/p>\n<h4>Scanning Process Used<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Scan using iPhone with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realityscan.com\/en-US\">Reality Composer<\/a> or other 3D scanning software. Instructions here are for Reality Composer on iPhone:\n<ul>\n<li>On phone, open Reality Composer app.<\/li>\n<li>Click &#8220;+&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Under\u00a0 3D CAPTURE, click Object Capture.<\/li>\n<li>Center object within boundaries on screen.<\/li>\n<li>Follow instructions to capture (rotate through 3 captures). Follow instructions on screen.<\/li>\n<li>When finished, it will process the capture and files will be in the Reality Composer files on the phone.<\/li>\n<li>Find file and open it.<\/li>\n<li>Use the Share Options to save it to the cloud or send by email\/message. For what was done here, only &#8220;3D Model Only&#8221; (without photos) was needed. It will be saved as a .usdz file.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blender.org\/\">Blender<\/a>, go to File -&gt; Import -&gt; Universal Scene Description (.usd) and navigate to the .usdz file.<\/li>\n<li>Export the .usdz file to glTF 2.0 (.glb\/.gltf) using Blender -&gt; File Export.<\/li>\n<li>Display using <a href=\"https:\/\/modelviewer.dev\/\">model-viewer<\/a> Javascript. It allows for simple viewing and rotating on desktop, and AR on iPhone. Use<a href=\"https:\/\/modelviewer.dev\/editor\/\"> their editor (https:\/\/modelviewer.dev\/editor\/)<\/a> to generate a page to display the .glb model.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>View Sample 3D Scanned Models<\/h4>\n<p>On a computer, model will appear. It can be rotated to show all sides and bottom (if scanned\u00a0 &#8211; none here are).<\/p>\n<p>On phone, model will appear, then show a prompt to &#8220;View in your space&#8221;. Click that if you want to view in AR.
