Rutgers Linguistics alum Lydia Newkirk (graduated in 2022) recently got hired as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin for the 2026-2027 academic year. After she finished her PhD at Rutgers, she spent some time as a post-doc at Yale University and then as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Lydia’s work is in semantics, from a typological perspective, with a focus on modal expressions, logophoricity, and degreelessness across various lesser-studied languages.
