La Iglesia Catolica es mi Comunidad

For my chapter, “’La Iglesia Católica Es Mi Comunidad’: A Union City Latinx Destination from Arrival to Old Age,” I’ve developed a short film (9.15 minutes). The short film showcases an annual event that the church does to commemorate the Pan-Latinx community and older Latinx church members mainly support it. The first part of the film briefly highlights the history of the city and the church by sharing archival materials that I used to develop the chapter. It later focuses on my ethnographic experiences volunteering for the church at the Holy Family International Festival. In all, my short film highlights the enduring role of the church in Latinx immigrant’s lives from their arrival to old age.
