IRES students were integrated into existing research communities at the Center for Computational and Integrative Biology (CCIB) at Rutgers University\u2013Camden, before receiving international research training at Adolfo Iba\u00f1ez University in Santiago, Chile, in <a href=\"https:\/\/capes.cl\/\">Center for applied ecology and sustainability<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/mnsap.cl\/\">Millenium Nucleus for the Development of Super Adaptable Plants<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Throughout the program, IRES students worked in close communication with U.S. faculty mentors, Chilean scientists, and other students.<\/p>\n<p>The BioFLOW IRES program offered:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 10-week research training in bio-inspiration and biomimicry (9-weeks at a Chilean university, 1-week at Rutgers);<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Professional development and career building in an international environment and exposure to the culture of Chile;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 A stipend of $600\/week for ten weeks, housing at Rutgers and UAI at no charge; full coverage of the travel between Philadelphia and Santiago, and home city; $500 conference travel funds for accepted IRES research presentations.<\/p>\n<p>As conclusion to the IRES-BioFLOW program, we are organizing a 3-day workshop in Santiago, Chile, for May 21-24, 2025 (see tab on left).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NSF-supported BioFLOW IRES Program provided unique research opportunities to U.S. students in the vibrant fields of biomimicry and bio-inspired flow research for ten weeks in Summer 2024.
