Virtual Placement Auditions

In keeping with current university guidelines for temporary remote access, Spring 2022 jazz placement auditions will be conducted virtually.

By the Tuesday 1/18 Deadline

1. Create Virtual Placement Audition Recording

  • Create a single recording of a single selection of your choosing using any professionally produced backing track. This does not need to be elaborate and can be as simple as recording your performance on your phone while the track is playing in the background. Perform the head, solos, and outro/head. The backing track does not need to follow your playing format exactly; simply stop the track when you complete the performance requirement.

Play-along Track Suggestions – you may utilize any professionally produced play-along track. The following tune choices are provided as suggestions:

2. Submit Your Ensemble Scheduling Form

  • See the “Semester Startup” page to complete this form by the Tues 1/18 deadline

3. Schedule Wed Interview Appointment with your Private Instructor

  • Refer to the email address list below to contact your instructor in advance. Individual appointments may begin after 3:15pm, Wed 1/19.

On Wed 1/19/22

4. Attend Jazz Orientation via Zoom, 2:30pm

5. Attend Private Zoom Audition Interview

  • Directly after Wednesday’s Jazz Orientation, students will break out to meet privately with respective instructors for a 10 to 15-minute virtual sight-reading evaluation and follow-up interview. Contact your instructor in advance to obtain a private meeting appointment time and link:

Note: as stated in the Handbook, failing to meet the stated recording and form submission deadlines as outlined above will result in a placement ranking of zero for the semester.
