Songs of Trevor Weston and Ignatius Sancho: A Premiere Performance and Discussion

Soprano Sonya Headlam and historical keyboardist Rebecca Cypess present a world-premiere performance of songs by Trevor Weston based on texts from Letters of the Late Ignatius Sancho, an African (1782). These newly commissioned songs will be interspersed with songs that Sancho composed himself and published around 1769, all performed on an antique English piano built during Sancho’s lifetime. The performance will be followed by a discussion with the performers and the composer, moderated by Michelle Stephens, Executive Director of the Institute for the Study of Global Racial Justice at Rutgers University.
