Sound on Canvas An exploration of iconic historical paintings accompanied by wind music from the corresponding epochs. Paintings by Beuckelaer, Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Fragonard, Monet, Van Gogh, and Kandinsky. Composers include Susato, Mozart, Grieg, Hindemith, among others, with a special feature arrangement of Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring.
Rutgers Chamber Jazz Ensembles, directed by esteemed jazz faculty members, will feature students in small-group settings performing works from renowned artists, including Horace Silver, Miles Davis, and Oliver Nelson.

To pair with Beethoven’s Violin Concerto (Diana Kim, soloist and concerto competition winner), RSO will open the concert with Unsuk Chin’s subito con forza – a showcase of orchestral music inspired by Beethoven. Bohuslav Martinu’s Symphony No. 2 will bring contrast and refreshed sound to this program.
