Rutgers New Music Workshop World premieres of works by Rutgers graduate and undergraduate composers
Dark Mountains by Robert Paterson, a work commissioned by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and premiered in 2011, will be featured, musically depicting the beautiful mountain landscape in the Northeast of the United States with occasional reminiscences of Copland’s Appalachian Spring, as well as works by Russian composers Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich.

The Fall Percussion Ensemble concert will feature “Straitjacket” by Marc Applebaum, “Triple Play” by Ayanna Woods, “Scratch” by Rolf Wallin, and “Trio in a Rudimental Style” by Joseph Tompkins, among other works.
Cutting-edge works by today’s leading composers, including world premieres by Rutgers composers.
The Rutgers Jazz Lab Band, directed by Dr. Anthony Branker, will feature “Three of Four Shades of the Blues” celebrating the sound, sensibility, and influence of the Blues spotlighting the compositions of Thad Jones, Benny Carter, Frank Foster, Charles Mingus, Lyle Mays, and others.
Featuring Bassist Kenny Davis in a concert honoring the Legacy of the All-Time Great Jazz Bassists-Charles Mingus, Oscar Pettiford, and Paul Chambers. The premier twenty-two-piece Rutgers University Jazz Ensemble I, is directed by Conrad Herwig.
