The Rutgers Minorities in Physics and Astronomy (RUMiPA or MiPA) group is dedicated to furthering the interests of, and developing a sense of community among, individuals within the Rutgers Physics and Astronomy department who identify as members of groups that are underrepresented and marginalized, either in the department specifically or in the broader fields of Physics and Astronomy. MiPA and all MiPA-hosted events are intended to be a safe and welcoming space for all individuals, especially for those from underrepresented groups in Physics and\/or Astronomy.<\/p>\n

For more information about MiPA’s goals and leadership, please view the\u00a0MiPA Charter<\/b><\/a>. In order to ensure that all MiPA meetings and MiPA-hosted events remain inclusive, welcoming environments for all attendees, all MiPA events follow the\u00a0MiPA Code of Conduct<\/b><\/a>. While we ask all members to electronically\u00a0sign the Code of Conduct<\/b><\/a>, any engagement with a MiPA event or space is taken as an agreement to follow the Code of Conduct.<\/p>\n

Our\u00a0weekly meetings<\/b>\u00a0are every Thursday in Serin 112W (and Zoom) from 2:00 – 3:00 pm.<\/p>\n

A long history:<\/b>\u00a0Over the past decade an informal Rutgers Women in Physics and Astronomy (RUWiPA) group has met regularly with the aim of fostering a comfortable and supportive environment for female graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and more recently, undergraduate women. In the Spring of 2020, WiPA changed its name to Minorities in Physics and Astronomy with the goal of being more inclusive to a broader range of underrepresented groups.<\/p>\n
