We are interested in understanding the signaling pathways and regulatory proteins involved in loading and unloading of cellular cargo onto motor proteins for intracellular transport.

Intracellular transport is required in all cell types. However, phenotypic consequences of intracellular transport impairment are more evident in highly polarized cells, such as neurons that have an extended morphology. Highly polarized cells require cargo to be transported across vast distances to be delivered to the appropriate location at the proper time for function.

We discovered that a highly evolutionarily conserved multi-protein signaling complex called STRiatin-Interacting Phosphatase and Kinase (STRIPAK) is a regulator of intracellular transport in neurons. We are interested in understand how this complex and other regulatory complexes mechanistically function in intracellular transport for cellular/neuronal function.
