Harna Patel is a PhD student in the Department of Plant Biology. Previously, she has worked with a variety of medicinal and aromatic plants and high value natural products including Oregano, Hazelnuts, Kombo Butter, Algae etc. She has applied basic plant propagation and analytical chemistry techniques as well as analytical instruments such as GC/MS to investigate the plants characteristics and their uses. Currently, her focus is on utilizing African medicinal plants to develop new products for food and cosmetics industries. In addition, she is also assisting on the NIH funded project investigating intestinal microbial metabolism of grape derived products.
