Constance Akhimien is a community researcher, mom of three beautiful children, and resident of Newark. She considers herself a social butterfly who is fully involved in her community. She is a member of the Essex County Council for young children and a parent ambassador for the Greater Newark Healthcare Coalition. She was part of the team that developed the methodology for examining Black women’s maternal health in Newark using community based participatory research and helped draft interview guides, conduct interviews, analyze data, and develop recommendations. She has presented the results of the study widely and is a co-author of the two scientific publications that resulted from the project on Black women’s maternal health in Newark
