Maria Oluwayemi lives in Newark and is the mom to wonderful triplets. She became a community researcher so that the voices of mothers in Newark could be heard. She was part of the team that developed the methodology for examining Black women’s maternal health in Newark using community based participatory research and helped draft interview guides, conduct interviews, analyze data, and develop recommendations. She has presented the results of the study widely and is a co-author of the two scientific publications that resulted from the project on Black women’s maternal health in Newark.
