Seasonal influenza, commonly called “the flu,” is caused by influenza viruses. These viruses can infect the respiratory tract (i.e., the nose, throat, lungs). It is likely that flu viruses and the virus that causes COVID-19 will both spread this fall and winter. Getting a flu vaccine during 2020-2021 is more important than ever to reduce the burden on healthcare systems that could be overwhelmed treating both flu and COVID-19 patients.

Rutgers Occupational Health remains committed to keeping our faculty and staff safe and we strongly encourage all Rutgers employees to receive a flu shot this year.  In order to provide safe delivery of the flu shot during this global COVID-19 pandemic, we have modified our practice this year.  Those employees who have not returned to campus should receive their vaccine at their local pharmacy which is provided at no cost with most medical insurances.

Fluzone High-Dose Vaccine will NOT be available at these clinics.

As parking and hours will be limited, on campus employees may also consider receiving the vaccine at a local pharmacy.  Due to COVID-19 infection control concerns, this year we will not be scheduling any off site vaccination clinics.  Additionally, all graduate students should contact Student Health for their flu shot.

Prior to coming for your flu shot, please do the following:

  1. Call in advance to schedule an appointment for a flu shot (848) 932-8254

  3. Read the Vaccination Information Sheet (VIS) available at:
  4. Consent forms will be provided at the time of scheduling.
  5. Complete the My Campus Pass on the day of the flu shot before arriving.
