Seasonal influenza, commonly called “the flu,” is caused by influenza viruses. These viruses can infect the respiratory tract (i.e., the nose, throat, lungs). Unlike many other viral respiratory infections, such as the common cold, the flu can cause serious illness and life-threatening complications in many people. The best way to prevent seasonal flu is by getting a seasonal flu vaccination each year. People at high risk for serious flu complications include older people, young children, pregnant women, and people with certain health conditions.
Free flu vaccines will be offered to faculty and staff members with a valid RU ID. The vaccine offered this year is the quadrivalent single dose vaccine. For more information on the vaccine, please visit the CDC Website. Beginning October 2019, we have a series of clinics throughout the University. They are as listed below and in calendar format for the October 2019 Calendar Flu Vaccination Schedule. If none of our clinics meet your needs, then at the end of October please call for an appointment at 848-932-8254. Appointments will be scheduled starting November 1st.
