The Department of Kinesiology and Health at Rutgers University – New Brunswick invites applicants for a tenure‐track position in Biomechanics and Human Movement at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in the Fall 2020. The Department of Kinesiology and Health (https://kines.rutgers.edu/) is one of 34 departments in the School of Arts and Sciences (https://newbrunswick.rutgers.edu/academics/school-arts-and-sciences) and a unit of the Division of Life Sciences (https://lifesci.rutgers.edu/). It is committed to educating and training the next generation of scholars to address the major public health issues related to physical activity and health, advancing the scientific understanding of human health, and providing leadership to the global sports industry. We are seeking candidates with research interests in Biomechanics and Human Movement that expand or complement other existing areas of expertise within the department. This is one of two new tenure-track faculty positions in the areas of Exercise Science and Biomechanics, and one new non-tenure track faculty position in Sports Management, demonstrating the University’s commitment to building excellence in Kinesiology and Health. Competitive candidates will be broadly trained in areas such as the mechanical principles underlying movement, rehabilitation, musculoskeletal function, and movement disorders. Specialized kinesiology and health facilities include the centers of the New Jersey Institute for Food, Nutrition, and Health (IFNH, https://ifnh.rutgers.edu/).

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a PhD in Biomechanics or a closely related field. The successful candidate will have post-doctoral training or independent research experience, a publication record, and demonstrated potential to secure extramural research funding to support the development of an independent research program. Candidates are expected demonstrate the potential for successful mentoring of graduate students, and excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in human movement biomechanics and courses in their chosen area of expertise. Interpersonal and communication skills that promote multi-disciplinary collaborations in research and program development are essential.

Responsibilities

Instructional duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in Kinesiology. This position involves establishing an active research program supported by external funders, directing graduate theses and dissertations, and undergraduate independent studies and honors projects, and serving on departmental, school and university committees.
