Kalia C. Aponte Morillo, originaria de Fajardo, Puerto Rico, es hija de Tahira y Pepe, hermana de Manolo y nieta de Canita. Se graduó de la Facultad de Ciencias Sociales de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Río Piedras, donde obtuvo un bachillerato con doble concentración en Estudios Puertorriqueños y Ciencias Políticas. Durante su trayectoria subgraduada, se dedicó a profundizar en temas de raza, género, sexualidad, colonialismo y colonialidad. Actualmente cursa estudios graduados en la Facultad de Humanidades de la misma universidad, donde está en proceso de obtener una maestría en Historia de Puerto Rico. Su perspectiva y praxis académica está arraigada en los feminismos decolonial, negro y del Sur Global. Su investigación actual se centra en el análisis de la crisis del VIH/SIDA en Puerto Rico a finales del siglo XX.
Kalia C. Aponte Morillo was born and raised in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. She is Tahira and Pepe’s daughter, Manolo’s sister and Canita’s grandaughter. She graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree with a double major in Puerto Rican Studies and Political Science. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras, with a double major in Puerto Rican Studies and Political Science. During her undergraduate years, she delved into issues of race, gender, sexuality, colonialism, and coloniality. Currently pursuing her graduate studies at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Puerto Rico, she is on track to earn a master’s degree in the History of Puerto Rico. Her academic interests are grounded in decolonial, Black, and Global South feminisms. Her current research focuses on the HIV/AIDS crisis in Puerto Rico at the end of the 20th century.
