Mission & Vision
The Rutgers Camden Public Health AmeriCorps Program is focused on public health promotion, community education and direct services in the City of Camden, Camden County and the Delaware Valley Region. Our team of AmeriCorps members will be responsible for capacity building and improving health outcomes while engaged in community outreach and civic engagement. Rutgers Camden Public Health AmeriCorps program strategy will engage public outreach in Camden, Camden County, and the Delaware Valley Region communities by building capacity through knowledge and skills to intervene in public health initiatives with a focus on state and local public -health organizations. Special attention will be provided to advancing health equity and positive population-based outcomes for communities who are currently or historically underserved. The program will provide academic, career, and leadership pathways towards innovative job opportunities through experiential on-site engaged civic learning, health equity and diversity training, and social justice education with a focus on Camden, Camden County, and the Delaware Valley Region.
History
Rutgers Camden Public Health AmeriCorps begins its story as a site participating in the New Jersey COVID Service Corps in 2021 to respond to the need to vaccinate community members across the state of New Jersey. In 2022, AmeriCorps launched the Public Health AmeriCorps in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to increase the diversity of the public health workforce in the United States. Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden is one of 89 grantees for the Public Health AmeriCorps program.
