Cigdem Acioglu received her Ph.D. in Medical Genetics and Molecular Biology from the Institute of Health Sciences, Kocaeli University, Turkey. She joined the Reynolds Family Spine Laboratory in 2013 as a visiting researcher. She performed her doctoral research with Dr. Stella Elkabes and Dr. Robert F. Heary in collaboration with Dr. Ahmet Tarik Baykal. Her current research focuses on the effects of TLR9 antagonism on mouse spinal cord neurons, astroglia, and astrocyte-neuron interactions.
Cigdem received her M.S. from The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Gebze Institute of Technology in Turkey with a concentration in cell biology. She was awarded The National M.Sc. Fellowship from The Scientific and Technological Research Center of Turkey for her master’s degree. She graduated from Istanbul University with a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2007.
