My colleague Manasa Bollempalli<\/a> and I attended the summer field course organized by the Megapolitan Coastal Transformation Hub (MACH)<\/a> at Stockton University’s Atlantic City Campus from June 17-21, 2024. My experience was truly transformative. The course shifted my focus from theoretical and methodological implications of climate research within academic circles to the importance of effectively communicating scientific information beyond academia.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"Visiting local sites during the summer course made me realize the real-life significance of climate research, particularly in addressing environmental issues like flooding, storm surge, and sea level rise. Engaging with guest speakers and science communicators from diverse backgrounds provided valuable insights into different strategies for conveying complex scientific concepts to broader audiences. Learning to use data communication tools like My Coast and NJ Adapt and designing exercises for community college students utilizing these tools, made me realize the potential of such tools to empower communities by providing accessible data to address climate-related challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The workshop with community college faculty, staff and stakeholders highlighted how our research can make a tangible difference in addressing environmental issues and inspiring future generations. It also encouraged discussions on integrating climate science into education and connecting scientific knowledge with practical action. Overall, the course motivated me to commit for advancing knowledge in my field and to communicate my research effectively to contribute to solving real-world problems and promoting resilience in the face of climate change.<\/p>\n
