New publication – Visual-motor integration deficits in 3q29 deletion syndrome

Our study titled “Visual-motor integration deficits in 3q29 deletion syndrome” is now published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders! We analyzed data from the Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration to measure visual-motor integration ability, as well as visual perception and motor coordination, in study subjects with 3q29 deletion syndrome. We found that individuals with 3q29 deletion syndrome had significant deficits in visual-motor integration ability, visual perception, and motor coordination. Our study participants with 3q29 deletion syndrome also performed significantly worse on this assessment than published data on 22q11.2 deletion syndrome. Our data suggest that 3q29 deletion syndrome may qualify as a nonverbal learning disability, and emphasizes the importance of early intervention in this population.
