The Rutgers Implicit Social Cognition (RISC) Lab <\/span><\/span>investigates implicit biases, beliefs, and attitudes and how they affect\u202f<\/span>(a) <\/span>the self and identity <\/span>(e.g., ethnicity, race, sexual, gender, criminals) <\/span>of individuals from stigmatized and disadvantaged groups<\/span>, and (b) inequities in health and STEM<\/span>. <\/span>We examine how biases operate in different social contexts. <\/span>Our general research questions of interest are: What social contexts motivate groups and individuals to express stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination and to develop and maintain their group identities? <\/span>How do contexts and individuals contribute to the presence and persistence of inequities in health, STEM, and the criminal justice system?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Research assistants\u202fwill be involved in multiple aspects of collaborative research, such as participant recruitment, data collection, data coding and analyses, and manuscript preparation.\u202f\u202fIn addition, research assistants will have opportunities to develop practical skills such as critical thinking and oral and written presentations, as well as develop mentor-mentee relationships with RISC Lab members. These skills\u00a0and experience are particularly\u00a0important for\u00a0students who want to\u00a0engage in\u00a0independent research (e.g.,\u00a0honors thesis) and wish to apply to graduate school.
